Nandyal police arrest 1,500 for drunk driving

Nandyal district police have intensified their crackdown on drunk driving, booking nearly 1,500 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police imposed fines totaling approximately ₹33.9 lakh, while 17 offenders were sentenced to jail by the courts. The special enforcement drive was conducted across the district to improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by drunken driving. Police officials warned that strict action would continue against violators and urged citizens to follow traffic rules and avoid driving after consuming alcohol.

The police conducted surprise checks at major junctions, highways, and urban areas throughout the district. Officials stated that drunk driving remains one of the leading causes of road accidents and fatalities. Awareness campaigns are also being organized to educate motorists about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol.
