Nandyal District is located in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. It is surrounded by Kurnool, YSR Kadapa, Anantapur, Prakasam, and the state of Telangana.

Nandyal District was officially formed on 4 April 2022 as part of the reorganization of districts in Andhra Pradesh.

Nandyal is renowned for the Nava Nandi Temples, the sacred Mahanandi Temple, the scenic Srisailam region, the Ahobilam temple, agriculture, seed production, and its natural beauty.

The name Nandyal is believed to have originated from “Nandi Alayam”, meaning the abode of Nandi (the sacred bull of Lord Shiva), as the town lies at the center of the famous Nava Nandi temples.

Popular attractions include Mahanandi Temple, Ahobilam, Srisailam, Belum Caves, Yaganti Temple, and the Nallamala Hills.

The principal rivers are the Krishna River and the Kunderu (Kumudvathi) River, which support agriculture and irrigation in the district.
