Inter-State Thief Arrested, Gold Worth ₹65 Lakh Recovered in Nandyal

Nandyal police arrested a notorious inter-state thief and recovered stolen gold ornaments worth approximately ₹65 lakh from the possession of the accused on Sunday. According to Nandyal SP Suneel Sheoran, the accused was identified as Sohail Khan (38), a resident of Gaddelahalli In Bengaluru north area. Sohail Khan, addicted to various vices, was involved in multiple house break-in offences reported at Kuppam, Penukonda and at Pension Mohalla locality in Hasan district in Karnataka.Despite being sent to jail in connection with house break-in cases registered at Hasan district, Sohail Khan did not mend his ways. He shifted base to Nandyal district and was involved in house break-in offences at Atmakur and Nandyal since 2015. The district police wing maintained a close surveillance on his movements and nabbed him near the SRBC canal close to Velugodu on Sunday. Police recovered gold ornaments weighing 42 tulas from the possession of the accused.

Gas Leak Explosion Claims 2 Lives, Injures 8 in Nandyal

A gas leak explosion in Chapirevula, Nandyal, early Tuesday morning claimed the lives of two people and left eight others severely injured. The incident occurred in a weakly built house occupied by an 11-member joint family. The deceased have been identified as Subbamma (60) and Dinesh (10). The explosion caused the house’s roof to collapse, trapping the victims and injuring the others. According to fire officials, the family turned off the stove Monday night but failed to properly close the gas cylinder. The leaking gas spread throughout the house overnight. When Subbamma switched on the light in the early hours, the accumulated gas ignited, resulting in a devastating explosion.
