Sankranti is the biggest harvest festival celebrated in Nandyal with great enthusiasm. Families decorate their homes with colorful rangolis (muggulu), fly kites, prepare traditional sweets, and participate in cultural events. The festival symbolizes prosperity, gratitude, and togetherness.
The celebrations usually last for three days—Bhogi, Sankranti, and Kanuma—with each day having its own traditions and significance. Farmers offer prayers to thank nature for a successful harvest, while villages come alive with decorated cattle, traditional games, folk dances, and festive gatherings. Relatives and friends visit one another to exchange sweets and greetings, making Sankranti a vibrant festival that reflects the rich cultural heritage of Nandyal and Andhra Pradesh.
